Want a job? #STEMJobs

If you’re a university student, (regardless of your year) chances are you’ll need to find a job when you finish. And as much as some people would love to pretend the real world doesn’t exist after uni (I definitely had friends like that …) it does!! So to please your parents, show the world the degree was worthwhile (and oh yes, earn some money – probably the most important part!) you need to find a job.

The good news though is that we can help! (Caveat here: if you hate using numbers and hate using data and analysis to solve problems, you’re reading the wrong blog). If you’re a business management student studying finance, a maths student specialising in computer science or an engineer with a love for solving problems, you’re in the right place. Continue reading on!

If you work with numbers or data (in any way / shape / form), or more importantly, want to, then chances are you’d be great in an Operational Research (O.R.) role. Never heard of O.R.? Shame on you for not reading my previous blogs (where one blog talks about what we actually do).

So, back to the point of this blog. We hold an annual careers fair every year on the 15th November at Millennium Point in Birmingham. It’s a fantastic opportunity for people to find out what O.R. is all about, chat to future employers and grab themselves a free lunch (because who doesn’t love free food?!).
We’ve got over a huge range of exhibitors, including over 25 from all different sectors and industries. We’ve got University’s who offer Masters / PhD’s, we’ve got large multinational corporate companies who employ O.R. analysts and we’ve got the more secretive defence side including the Government and DSTL. You can see a full list of exhibitors for this year on the poster above (as well as previous years exhibitors on our website).

Okay, so if you're thinking "I’m kind of on-board – but I need a little more convincing"... fair enough. If the chance to secure a job before your friends wasn’t enough,  how about hearing from experts in their fields? Or meeting and networking with other like-minded people? Last year was great fun and every year is a different dynamic but a huge success, with coach loads (literally) of students arriving from all over the country. If you want to be a part of it, it’s easy – just go online and sign up where it says ‘BOOK NOW’.

Oh and did I mention it’s free to attend? There is really such a thing as a free lunch.

Interested? Bored? Hopefully not the latter..
